or over a century, Missourians have had the pleasure to be entertained by the Muny, an outdoor venue for musicals throughout the summer season. The Muny is proud to hold the title of America’s oldest and largest outdoor theatre. Its rich history continues as the company announced its 101 annual show dates for the summer of 2019, according to muny.org. An evening at the Muny can be great summer fun for the whole family for as low as $15 per person.

“The Muny gives another great option for a fun summer activity,” senior Gretchen Buel said. “I love how St. Louis offers so many cheap options for everyone to do so close to home. I think this helps build a strong sense of community in our area.”

“Guys and Dolls”

June 10 to 16

“Guys and Dolls” tells the story of a gambler named Nathan Detroit and his girlfriend Adelaide as they try to find money for the biggest Craps game in town while the authorities are hot on their tails. From the heart of New York City to the cafes to Havana, Cuba, this Broadway classic will surely bring plenty of laughs and excitement.

“Kinky Boots”

June 19 to 25

Boasting the honor of six Tony Awards, the Olivier Award and a Grammy, it showcases the true story of a British shoe factory on the verge of bankruptcy and their interesting way of recreating themselves, according to muny.org. It has proven to be a fan favorite across the country.

“1776”

June 27 to July 3

“1776” showcases the historic signing of the Declaration of Independence and the various characters of the Founding Fathers. Key figures such as John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson must convince the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the British Monarchy and create the Declaration of Independence, according to muny.org. This patriotic musical will have all Americans inspired proud of the country’s founding.

“Cinderella”

July 8 to 16

Be ready to catch this show before midnight, as the classic is coming to the Muny. The musical was produced on Broadway in 2013 and became an overnight sensation, according to muny.org. It is the proud receiver of 10 Tony Award nominations and can make anyone’s dreams come true, according to muny.org. This star of a production is perfect for all ages to view and enjoy.

“Footloose”

July 18 to 24

“Footloose” is based on the 1984 blockbuster hit of a young teen who moves to a small town where dancing and rock music is banned and shows how love and music can transform a town. It has been nominated for a Tony Award four times and has aged perfectly the last 30 years, according to muny.org.

“Paint Your Wagon”

July 27 to August 2

During the California gold rush, prospector Ben Rumson strikes it rich when his daughter finds gold and the love of her life named Juilo. However, Julia heads East to attend school and returns to the town abandoned and on the hunt for the next gold strike. This tale encapsulates the meaning of love, ambition and home in this Western classic.

“Matilda”

August 5 to 11

Young Matilda must use her vivid imagination and wicked smarts to discover her own surprising powers and the path through life’s hardships. This magical musical has won four Tony Awards and will leave Muny audiences in awe, according to muny.org.
