On one of the coldest days of the year, the hottest styles from politicians and A-list celebrities were seen at the swearing-in of the 46th president, Joe Biden. Colorful, monochromatic and bold pieces seemed to be a trend among the attendees of Biden’s inauguration.

Kamala Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris was sworn in wearing a bright purple coat with a matching dress underneath. This set was designed by Christopher John Rogers who is a young designer based in New York according to nytimes.com. She paired the dress with an American flag pin and her signature pearls which pulled the whole look together.

Ella Emhoff
Ella Emhoff, who was seen standing behind Harris, is the daughter of the second gentleman Doug Emhoff. While she often receives very little media coverage, she stole the show with her outfit on inauguration day. She wore a plaid houndstooth jacket that was styled with jewels, a white-collar, and was cinched at the waist. Being known for her artsy side people rushed to Twitter to compliment her stylistic choices according to cnn.com.

Bernie Sanders
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders attended Biden’s inauguration wearing a brown coat, black pants and a pair of black and brown mittens. He was seen sitting cross-legged and socially distanced from other spectators. People from the internet then made a meme out of him by photoshopping him into various places like TV shows, historical moments and famous paintings according to politico.com.

Lady Gaga
Featured performer Lady Gaga wore a custom red and black dress constructed by a Shiaparelli designer according to BBC.com. She paired it with a golden dove brooch that was meant to represent peace. Some critics are saying that she resembles a character in “The Hunger Games” due to the styling of her outfit.

Michelle Obama
Michelle Obama, the former first lady, joined in on the monochromatic trend at inauguration day. She wore a purple turtleneck with matching flair pants and a gold belt to top it off. Her outfit was designed by Sergio Hudson who is a famous black designer according to people.com.

Jill Biden
Dr. Jill Biden was seen wearing a teal dress and coat set with added jewels. The coat was embroidered with every state flower as a way of symbolism to show unity according to vogue.com. To finish the look off she paired her outfit with matching heels and a teal mask.
