Rocky (1976)
“Rocky” is the classic movie about Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), the small boxer from Philadelphia. The Sandlot (1993)
New kid Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) moves to a new house over the summer and befriends a group of kids who play baseball in the nearby “sandlot.” The boys go on a series of adventures over the course of the summer. However, they find themselves in a bit of trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his step-dad and it is skyrocketed over the fence. Rudy (1993)
Defensive end Rudy Ruettiger (Sean Astin) wants to continue playing football after high school at Notre Dame. However, due to his dyslexia, he was unable to qualify for the scholarships he needed in order to pay tuition. After the death of his best friend, Ruettiger is compelled to get a tutor and overcome his dyslexia. Remember the Titans (2000)
High school football is everything to the people of Alexandria, Virginia. In 1971, an all-black school was forced to integrate with an all-white school. The movie, based on a true story, follows T.C. Williams High School’s football team as they work to become a team, united despite the racism and de jure segregation. Bend it Like Beckham (2002)
The daughter of strict Indian parents, Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra), was never allowed to play soccer in a league. Miracle (2004)
Hockey is a fast-paced sport that can be hard to replicate. However, director Gavin O’Connor manages to accurately recreate the thrill of the 1980 U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team and their path to the podium. The movie follows coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) as he pulls together a rag-tag team of college kids in order to defeat the best hockey team in the world at the time, the Soviets.
