New Star Wars movies and TV shows coming to Disney+

Dec. 10, 2020, was a day that will be remembered for years by Star Wars and Disney fans alike. On that day, Disney held its Investor Day, where they discussed the profits and finances of the company’s various streaming platforms, and most importantly, announced new shows and movies for companies like Marvel and Star Wars. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, revealed 12 movies and shows that will be released on Disney+ as well as news about the third season of “The Mandalorian.”

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch”
2021 on Disney+
“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” is an all-new animated series that takes place during and after the events of “Clone Wars” season seven and follows the elite clone squad known as Clone Force 99, or the Bad Batch. The series will be executive produced by Dave Filoni and Athena Portillo, with Brad Rau as supervising director and Jennifer Corbett as head writer.

“The Book of Boba Fett”
December 2021 on Disney+
The series was first revealed in the post-credits sequence after the second season finale of “The Mandalorian.” Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez will be the show’s executive producers, and the show will star Temura Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand.

“Ahsoka”
To Be Determined on Disney+
A series following Ahsoka Tano’s adventures during the time of “The Mandalorian” season two, Ahsoka will star Rosario Dawson as, well, Ahsoka Tano. The series is created by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

“Rangers of the New Republic”
TBD on Disney+
Not much is known about this series other than it is also created by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, and is set during “The Mandalorian” timeline and will supposedly follow Cara Dune (Gina Carano) after she joined the New Republic.

“Andor”
2022 on Disney+
A prequel series to “Star Wars: Rogue One,” the series will follow Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he tries to “restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

“Obi-Wan Kenobi”
TBD on Disney+
The show is set 10 years after “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” and will see the return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Production is set to begin in March 2021.

“The Acolyte”
TBD on Disney+
Teased as a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark sides power in the final days of the High Republic era. The High Republic takes place hundreds of years before the Star Wars prequel films. The show will be written and executive produced by Leslye Headland.

“Rogue Squadron”
Dec. 22, 2023
Directed by Patty Jenkins, the director of “Wonder Woman,” “Rogue Squadron” is solely based around Luke Skywalker’s squadron first introduced in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” and is going to be taking X-Wing space combat to a whole new level.

“Lando”

The only information that is available about “Lando” is that it is being developed by Justin Simien and will follow the adventures of Lando Calrissian.

“Star Wars: Visions”
TBD on Disney+
“Star Wars: Visions” will be a collection of 10 short films that will be created by leading Japanese anime studios, specifics of which are yet to be revealed.

“A Droid Story”
TBD on Disney+
Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic are bringing this new adventure for R2-D2 and C-3PO. A hybrid of animation and visual effects that will introduce a new hero that will be guided by the droid duo.
