Uplifting Playlist
As kids snooze their alarms one final time, crawl out of bed and sluggishly begin to get ready, they are desperate for something to lift their spirits. The right playlist, however, can turn even the most detested Monday into a weekend-worthy dance party.
1. Walk of Life by Dire Straits: “I love [this song] because it’s an upbeat rock song with a great story that can also be taken as a metaphor for life,” senior Cooper Gibbs said.
2. The Middle by Jimmy Eat World: “As a 14 year old, even the little things can make it seem like the world is ending and this song reminds me of the fact that it’s not,” freshman Madalyn Welch said. “It makes you remember to keep pushing on because as a teenager, your life is still just beginning, and things will get better.”
3. Space Oddity by David Bowie: “The song reminds me of an astronaut called Chris Hadfield who made a cover of the song,” freshman Garrett Pfeifer said. “And I really just like the sound of the song.”
4. Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and The Waves: “It always puts me in a good mood, and reminds me to walk around with joy,” sophomore Kevin Stevens said.
5. Have It All by Jason Mraz: “My favorite lyric is ‘may the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows’ because it reminds me to make everyday better than the last and to live my life to the fullest,” sophomore Kate Boyd said.
6. Seal the Deal by Volbeat: “It has very fast drums and guitar riffs,” junior Everett Remstedt said. “The drums just pump me up cause I can feel them in my chest.”
7. A Night to Remember by Shalamar: “Much like the title the chorus sings ‘going to make this a night to remember,’” junior Hali Gage said. “I think this is particularly uplifting because it is a reminder of your day is what you make of it. Live everyday like it’s a night to remember because you won’t ever get that day back.”
8. Glory by Evvie Mckinney: “The song makes me think of battling the haters and striving forward,” senior Zyeon Oatts said.
9. Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson: “It makes me think of when I was younger and my mom would make pancakes every weekend and she would flip them on our plates,” senior Suzy Powers said. “It just brings back good memories so it automatically brightens my day.”
10. Sing by My Chemical Romance: “This song makes me think of my past in general and the people I’ve known because it’s about reflecting on your life and accepting it and moving on,” freshman Dharma Hotmer said.
Music is a powerful tool. It has the ability to transform the way people feel and view the world. Do not be afraid to make a new playlist, because music really can do anything.
