What rules and restrictions West is implementing to ensure students are healthy at school

Cafeteria seats are now marked for people to sit in the mornings and lunches. The five lunches insure that there are less people in each lunch so that students have less contact. “It is difficult for students to find places to sit with their friends because there is a five people to a table rule. Especially as it gets colder outside students are going to find more difficulties finding tables for them and their friends to sit at.”, sophomore Julianna Kuhlman said.

The bathrooms are being blocked off for cleaning. Janitors have been taking their time cleaning each stall for students and staff multiple times a day. “Although it has made it harder to find an open bathroom, janitors are doing their jobs at ensuring the bathrooms are clean for passing times,” sophomore Julianna Kuhlmann said.

The divided hallways are used to enforce social distancing. Rules were changed so that students are no longer allowed to gather in the hallways with their friends in between classes. “Nothing has really changed with the hallways since everyone walked on the correct sides anyways, it’s kinda like driving on any road,” Kuhlmann said.

Teacher Natalie Callihan’s sanitation station is used for students to wipe down their desks. Callihan has been using these methods to ensure that her students are cleaning their desks after every class period. “It is safe and it is sanitary,” Kuhlmann said. “I feel safer with this process because it reassures me desks are getting cleaned more than last year.”

Students are able to still refill their water bottles but are not able to get short drinks of water in some areas. This makes it easier for staff to keep track of students who have been going in and out of the bathrooms at all times. “I think that this can be annoying, but it is what we have to do to ensure that not everyone is gathering around for drinks,” Kuhlmann said.
