“Mean Girls” is a movie that was made in 2004 about a young high school girl coming into a new school trying to fit in when three “mean girls” come into play as the most popular girls in the school, according to imdb.com.
20 years later, a new version of “Mean Girls” makes the theater scene. The movie is a film adaption of the 2018 Broadway musical which was based on the 2004 original, according to fox59.com.
Mean Girl fans had made a rumor about seeing the original cast in the new movie. Although there are a few familiar faces such as Tina Fey, who played Ms. Norbury from the original (and also wrote “Mean Girls”), Cady Heron played by Lindsay Lohan and Regina George played by Rachel McAdams, the new movie has all new actors and actresses, according to playbill.com.
A difference between the new movie versus the original version is the location the movie is being filmed. In 2004, the movie was filmed in Toronto, Canada. The backdrop in Toronto has beautiful architecture, local landmarks and exciting sites. Whereas the new upcoming movie was filmed in different cities all over New Jersey such as, Florham park, Morris Township and Woodbridge. They even filmed at a Middletwon Catholic high school. These allow for the movie to have a more modern theme, according to n.j.com and giggster.com.
Similarities between the two movies include the physical appearances between the actors and actresses. In the original, Regina George is the main mean girl with blonde hair and “hotter” than the rest. Gretchen Weiners is the second mean girl, with brunette hair and is only popular because her dad invented Toaster Strudel. And last but not least is Karen Smith. She portrays a dumb, pretty blonde that can supposedly sense the weather, according to screenrant.com.
“The two movies have a lot of differences,” junior Alaina Moreland said. “But that is what makes the movie so fun.”
