Magical Milestone
The cast of the “Harry Potter” franchise returns to Hogwarts for the film’s 20th anniversary
One of the most prominent books and movie franchises is J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” hepatology. The book series has been a success globally, having sold over 500 million copies worldwide, and translated into over 80 different languages, according to wizardingworld.com. With such success, the books were turned into movies. The first film, “Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone,” having been released on Nov. 14, 2001, recently reached its 20th anniversary.
In celebration of the milestone, it was announced that HBO Max would be premiering an anniversary special, “Harry Potter Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts,” reuniting the cast of the film series. Many of the cast members, such as Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the films, posted on social media to show their gratitude for Harry Potter fans, according to washingtonpost.com.
“Thank you to the fans that have continued to show their support well after the last chapter closed,” Watson said on her Instagram post. “The magic of the world would not exist without you.”
New Year’s Day will be an exciting day for fans old and new. As of Jan. 1, 2022, is the date the show is set to air.
“I am so stoked to watch [‘Return to Hogwarts’],” sophomore Autumn Beck said. “I have been craving new content, and I am so glad that fans can have that.”
Although the books were originally published in the early 2000s, it seems that there is still a lot of content and enjoyment for the series on social media, as well as new fans being introduced to the fantasy atmosphere of Hogwarts.
“I have liked the franchise since I was a child,” Beck said. “However, I have really gotten more invested for the last two years.”
Besides Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), who played the main trio in the films, many other cast members will be joining them in the reunion. Celebrities that are set to appear include Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), among many others. However, Rowling will not be featured in the HBO exclusive and instead will be shown in archived footage of her talking about the films in the past, all according to variety.com.
Along with “Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts,” another show will begin streaming on HBO Max on Jan. 1, 2022. Fans of the wizarding world will test their knowledge of all things Potter in “Hogwarts Tournament of Houses,” where they will compete in trivia in their respective Hogwarts houses. Hosted by Helen Mirren, this television series will feature special guest cast members such as Luke Youngblood (Lee Jordan) and Simon Fisher-Becker (Fat Friar), along with celebrity fans Jay Leno and Pete Davidson.
In short, “Harry Potter” fans will have a whimsical year to look forward to at the start of 2022. Grab your wands because it is time for some magic.
