On the Rink
Meet the Varsity Hockey team
Skating around the rink, senior Joshua Eigenmann waves to the camera. Eigenmann has been selected to be the team’s captain. “I mean, was I surprised? Not really,” Eigenmann said. “But hey, I get to lead my team now so it’s a good experience and a good feeling.”
Picking up his stick, senior Jack Rider practices his shooting. After playing hockey for 11 years, Rider has gained valuable experience being a center. “It’s been pretty good for the most part, there are ups and downs, but it’s mostly good,” Rider said. “I’m not ready for it to be over though.”
Junior Jacob Cohen awaits instruction from the coach during the second half of practice. Cohen has been playing hockey since he was seven years old and has looked forward to his junior season. “I think hockeys a really cool sport,” Cohen said. “It’s given me good teamwork skills and good team bonding.”
Finishing her shooting round, junior Kylie Shannon gets ready to head to the other side of the rink. As the only girl on the team, Shannon has had a different experience playing forward. “It’s like having a bunch of brothers,” Shannon said. “I’m not always included in everything but it’s still pretty fun.”
Sophomore Austin Kaatman takes position as he awaits the puck to come towards him. Kaatman has been on the team for two years playing defense. “My grandpa played hockey and he thought I would enjoy it,” Kaatman said. “He got me into it early because that’s when he started.”
Awaiting his turn as the goalie, sophomore Logan Zwilling skates around the rink. After playing on the team for two years, Zwilling has continued to show dedication. “I took a shot to the shoulder that broke my collarbone around three or four years ago,” Zwilling said. “It was difficult but I still got back on the ice.”
