The varsity dance team won first place at nationals in hip hop last year.

The varsity dance team has proven their elite skills by consistently achieving great success at the UDA National Dance Team Championship in Orlando. This year, the competition will be held during Feb. 1-3. As nationals is upon them, the seniors are giving everything they have to make the most out of their final year.

“This year is the seniors last chance, so we have to dance like we never have before,” co-captain Kenzie Baucum said.

Last year, the dance team brought home the first national title in school history. The program’s success has continued to build over the years. In 2013, the team made finals in hip hop for the first time, placing 15th. A continued success from 11th in 2014, 9th in 2015, 2nd in 2016, 6th in 2017 and finally to 1st in 2018 has proven the longevity of the dance team.

“Confidence is everything in such a large competition,” Baucum said. “I plan on being positive no matter what circumstances we are under. We can only focus on ourselves and we know that doing our best is all we can do.”

It is clear that the dance team has achieved tremendous milestones over time. The program continues with hard work and dedication to prepare for nationals in 2019.
