Beneficial Essential Oils

Whether it is fighting a sickness, healing a skin condition, relaxing the body, or just putting a sweet scent in the air, essential oils provide life changing health benefits some may not know about.

Fight sickness and pain

Peppermint can be used for a variety of problems such as headaches and sore muscles, aids in pain relief, boosts energy and improves focus.

Oregano kills a cold quickly and kills fungus.

Ginger reduces inflammation, supports joints, improves digestion and relieves nausea.

Frankincense builds immunity, reduces inflammation, supports joints and helps prevent cancer.

Eucalyptus improves respiratory issues and purifies the body.

Clover acts as an antibacterial and provides antioxidant protection.

“At night or when I am sick and congested I will use peppermint that can also relieve headaches or any pains,” junior Brooklyn McDonough said.

Relaxation

Lavender improves mood, heals any burns or cuts, and relaxes the mind and body.

Chamomile decreases irritability, overthinking, worry, and anxiety in the body.

Frankincense helps quiet the mind, and it is great for treating depression and anxiety by providing tranquil energy.

“I use essential oils for a lot,” McDonough said. “I have a vaporizer in my room that I use at night to make my room smell really good, and helps me relax.”

Skin Care

Rose creates a glowing complexion and reduces skin inflammation.

Tea Tree oil is a natural antibacterial, antifungal, reduces odors and stimulates the immune system.

Myrrh is a natural antiseptic, reduces infections and stretch marks and creates hormonal balance.

Grapefruit helps in cellulite reduction and supports metabolism.

“I use tea tree oil and eucalyptus when I wash my face because it helps open my sinuses and pores,” French teacher Erica Guittar said. “I use lavender and frankincense in my moisturizer as well.”

Peppermint aids in stress management, treat nervous disorder and treats mental fatigue.

Rosemary improves brain function and memory, and is great for reading or studying.

“When I use different essential oils such as my mango oil in my vaporizer, they do an amazing job waking me up and putting me in a better mood,” McDonough said.
