Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs team was given its team’s name when the owner, Lamar Hunt, moved them to Kansas City in 1963 after originally playing as the Dallas Texans from 1960 to 1962. The Chiefs won the AFL championships in the 1960s, becoming the team with the most championships won during the short-lived AFL season. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, 2024, having two wins in a row and three wins within the past five years, then losing the 2025 Super Bowl to the Eagles, according to operations.nfl.com.
“I really started watching it because of my friends,” senior Mason Washington said. “It’s kind of close to Missouri and the only team since the Rams left.”
St. Louis Blues
The Blues joined the NHL during the 1967 to 1968 season. They were one of the six teams added to the league when the league expanded from its “Original Six” franchise. The Blues have appeared in four Stanley Cup finals in 1968, 1969 and 1970, and have won one championship in 2019, according to briatannica.com.
“It’s entertaining watching grown men fighting over a puck,” junior Zoe Clark said. “It’s also fun to talk to my friends about hockey.”
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are a professional American baseball team established in 1882, and play in the NLB. The Cardinals have won 11 World Series titles and 23 league pennants. They are considered the oldest major league team west of the Mississippi River and one of baseball’s most consistently successful franchises, according to britannica.com.
“I watch the Cardinals because I would always watch it with my dad when I was a kid,” junior Conor Lestina said. “He first took me to a Cardinals game when I was about five years old, and I will always remember that.”
St. Louis City SC
The St. Louis City SCs are a professional American soccer club competing in MLS. The team was announced on Aug. 20, 2019. They were the 28th MLS franchise to join the league and began playing during the 2022 season. For a first-time team, they had a relatively good first season, according to sportsteamhistory.com.
“My family is a big soccer family, especially my dad, he loves soccer,” senior Isabelle Bender said. “My family gets seasonal tickets to go watch the games together all season.”
