  1. Dark Knight (2008)

Known throughout the movie universe, there is a saying that villains make the movie, and in this case it is very true. Even though Christian Bale is the perfect Batman, Heath Ledger was an even better Joker. Pushing buttons, the Joker is what is most memorable about this version of Batman. Showing his dark past, this movie creates a light never seen before on an antagonist, the display of the relationship between the hero and the villain. In one of the final scenes between Batman and the Joker, Batman questions the Joker on why he wants him dead. Realizing what Batman means to him, the Joker responded.

“Kill you? I don’t want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, you … you complete me,” said the Joker.

Heros give a reason for the villain to continue the terror they cause and in the Joker’s case, he felt needed and important. Batman filled the Joker’s void and that is what is truly chilling about this movie.

  1. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Evolving what used to be a low ranked comic series into a box office hit, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was a risk for Marvel. The movie consisted of 5 unknown heroes and their journey towards saving the day or in this case, saving the galaxy. Taking this story from nothing to something was not a small hazard. Marvel gave these superheros their own franchise and made them into what they are now; it is a movie with heart and soul. Never taking themselves too seriously, but serious enough, was the perfect balance to make all inhabitants of the galaxies surprisingly happy with the outcome of this retro-modern movie.

  1. Spiderman Homecoming (2017)

The debate is over. Finalized. ‘Spiderman: homecoming’ is the best spiderman movie to come out. Tom Holland took the character of Peter Parker and brought it to life. This version of Peter Parker very much relies on his alter identity and sees himself as a part of Spiderman. Holland displayed this perfectly by acting shy and timid in his Peter Parker persona, but confident and sarcastic as web slinger. Spiderman is one of the most commonly known superheroes. Having been one of the most popular comic books, the movie series also became a popular hit. With a wall crawling, web shooting teenager, it is surprising as to how much teens can relate to him. First date goosebumps and the struggle of having people undermine one’s age is just a few of the small things that really has the audience getting in the feels for this movie. may need to be 18 to do a lot of things, but one does not need to be an adult to enjoy this relatable movie.

  1. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Imagine a world where the good guys fight each other. This movie depicts exactly what that would be. Iron man and Captain America facing head to head. Two friends turning on each other putting their own friends in the middle. Never knowing which side is the good one and if the right side was chosen is the internal struggle faced by many of the characters in this movie.  Betrayal; that is what this is and is felt by everyone, including the audience, throughout this movie. “Captain America: Civil War” is the alternate universe we all wondered what would be. It is jaw dropping and chilling to see the characters every move.

  1. Wonder Woman (2017)

Long overdue, Wonder Woman is a female superhero movie that exceeded most expectations. DC is known for very serious movies, but when it came to Wonder Woman, they depicted her perfectly. With Laughter, romance, action and humor, it was hard not to fall in love with this movie. Not having Wonder Woman’s love interest overpower her role in the movie is what made it even better. She was able to show how strong of a woman she was and how women do not need men to lead. ‘Wonder Woman’ is the perfect empowerment movie and will sure get women and men of all ages wanting to push for a better world; a world of equal opportunity.

  1. Superman: The Movie (1978)

Now this movie may not have the same type of cinematography compared to today’s movies, but when it was released, it was beyond its time. Being the first true superhero movie, it was something never seen before. Transforming a comic book into a movie was a phenomenon not thought of at the time, but when ‘Superman: The Movie’ was released, it surprised everyone of what it was capable of. If one wants to see the movie that started the superhero empire, ‘Superman: The Movie’ is it.
