This year, The Solitaire is all about reimaging, so instead of Mr. Jaguar, a male beauty pageant, the paper will be hosting the first annual West’s Top Jaguar, a competition of talent and school spirit to determine who is the best in the school.
West’s Top Jaguar will still be very similar to the Mr. Jaguar that most upperclassmen know and love, but instead, there will be different segments than Mr. Jaguar and is open to the entire student body to join, with a limit of about 20 participants. The first segment is the opening dance that has always opened Mr. Jaguar. There will also be a Q&A with the contestants after each main segment. Talent with a Twist is a talent show where each contestant submits a talent but gets assigned someone else’s talent come showtime. There will also be a skills competition of field day activities that the contestants will compete in. The last main segment will be a spin on Family Feud.
After all segments have been completed, crowd favorites will be voted on at fzwnews.com and the judges will finish scoring each participant. Scoring is based on each main event and there are different point values for each competition. The contestants will be scored by a handful of teachers who have been selected to be judges. Once the scores are in, the winners will be announced, and the overall winners–first, second and third–will all be awarded with prizes along with the fan favorite and the team that wins Family Feud.
If you would like to join, sign up with the link in our Instagram bio @fzwnewspaper. Additionally, if you have any questions about the show, go to the auditorium lobby on Sept. 13 at 12:15 p.m for an informational meeting.
